President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has warned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that their dreams of winning the 2024 elections are premature as he would ensure the next government is surely an NPP led-government.
Nana Akufo-Addo said he will do everything in his power to make the NPP win the 2024 election, break the elusive ‘8’ and shock the NDC once again by defying their predictions.
The President made his declarations during an interview on Nandom Fm Monday, August 22nd 2022 as part of his ongoing tour of the Upper West Region.
The President said the NDC believe they will win the 2024 elections on a silver platter due to difficulties in the country but he insisted the NPP are ready to shock them once again as they did in 2016.
According to Akufo-Addo, the NDC has written him off all his political career, famously declaring he would never become President – hence they would be proven wrong once again in 2024.
“I know that there are people especially the National Democratic Congress who have begun to celebrate already because of the difficulties of the country. One swallow does not make a summer. Tell them. They shouldn’t hesitate. They have been writing me off all my political career. I could never make it. I couldn’t win. I have won twice and I am going to win again for the party in December 2024,” he stated.
The 2024 election is expected to be a battle between the two major political forces, the NPP and NDC, but before then, the NPP have to decide on who to present for the elections.
A Fair and Transparent Primary
The President used his platform to charge party leaders to ensure the primary is a transparent, free and fair one whilst declaring to pledge his support for whoever comes out of the process.
“Let’s create the conditions for a fair, transparent process. One that will enable us after the competition to unite. We want out of that process somebody who will come who will have the capacity to unite our party and put it in a position to confront the traditional opponent National Democratic Congress and beat the National Democratic Congress in December 2024. Mine is to do whatever I can do to assist the new leadership of the party,” President Akufo-Addo reiterated.
