Former President John Dramani has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to do everything possible to win back power in 2024 to honour the party’s late Northern Regional Chairman, Alhaji Mobila.
Mahama made the call whilst speaking at the funeral of the late chief held in Tamale on Sunday, August 20th 2022.
“Nobody knows when his time will come, and so like General Secretary and our chairman said, the last honour we can pay to our chairman Mobila is to win the 2024 election and bring NDC back into office,” the ex-President said.
After one term in office between 2013 and 2017, Mahama lost the 2016 elections to current President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He subsequently lost the 2020 election as well but is widely considered as the frontrunner to be the NDC flagbearer for 2024 and likely favourite in the elections.
The late Chief Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila was the Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC, having served in the position from 2018 until his death earlier this week.
Ibrahim Mobila died Tuesday, August, 16th 2022 after a short illness.
He was 90.
Top NDC executives aside the former flagbearer were all in Tamale over the weekend for his final funeral rites.
Presenting a tribute to the late leader, the NDC said: “Chairman Mobila was a fountain of wisdom and knowledge, and his experience and expertise were also brought to bear on party activities,”
