President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo donated Ghc 100,000, eight cows and five bags of rice towards the funeral of the late Mion-Lana, Alhaji Abdulai Mahamadu V on Sunday, August 21st 2022 in the Northern Region.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also donated Ghc 80,000 to the funeral.
The President and Veep were honoured guests at the final funeral rites of the late Mion-Lana, held Sunday at his palace in Mion after his tragic passing last week.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was too emotional to speak, spoke through the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Sanni Alhassan Saibu.
The President said he hoped the passing of the late great Chief would help bring unity to the people of Dagbon.
He said it was his prayer that the people of Dagbon would come together peacefully and find a replacement for the late chief.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who was also too emotional to speak, said he was sad over the late chief’s passing in a speech presented by the Regional Minister.
Mion-Lana, Alhaji Abdulai Mahamadu V, the heir apparent to the Dagbon skin, died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra Wednesday, August 17th 2022 after a short illness.
His remains were flown back home to Sambu in the Mion kingdom and buried in accordance with Islamic custom.
He left behind five wives and 12 children.
Mahamadu V was the eldest son of the late Ya-Na Mahamadu Abdulai IV.
He is expected to be replaced by one of his sons who works with the National Intelligence Bureau at a regency ceremony Friday, August 26th.
