This Country Will Be Ungorvernable If All Chiefs Behaved Like Ashanti Chiefs – Kwame A Plus

Political commentator and former musician, Kwame Asare Obeng aka Kwame A Plus, has called out the Ashanti Chiefs for behaving arrogantly in regards to the ongoing brouhaha surrounding comments made by businessman/politician Akwasi Addia aka Odike.

According to A Plus, if every chief in Ghana decided to behave like the Ashanti Chiefs, the country would be virtually ungovernable.

A Plus made his thoughts known in a post on his Facebook wall as the Odike-Manhyia clash reaches new heights.

The political commentator shared a video of the Manhyia chiefs calling on Odike to appear before them Monday, August 29th 2022 for his case regarding disrespect of the throne and fomenting rebellion to be heard.

In the said video, the chiefs called on Odike to appear for the issue to be squashed once and for all.

They also berated the management of Oyerepa Fm for giving Odike the platform to air his grievances against the chiefs.

According to them, the management showed no remorse by appearing before them empty-handed without any gift to please the hearts of the chiefs.

The Sanaahene, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs, said the station had taken their infringement very lightly.

To conclude, the chiefs called on the government to give them back the power of summons so they can order police officers to drag anyone who offends them before them.

Reacting to that last part specifically, A Plus said Ghana would descend into anarchy if all chiefs are given that power.

“If the Ga traditional council or the Volta regional house of chiefs close down a media house because they have been accused of a crime on their platform, this country will be ungovernable. This is not right. #discuss,” he wrote.

The controversy follows comments by Odike implicating Chiefs in the Ashanti Region in the menace of galamsey.

Speaking on Oyerepa Fm, he said; “My is directed at the occupant of the Golden Stool Otumfuo Osei Tutu and Manhyia. Nana, if you are listening, please listen well. Your ancestors, Sir Osei Agyemang Prempeh and others, left us lands with water bodies intact…. Nana, the way you are looking on for us to lose our forests and water bodies to galamsey, what account are you going to give Sir Osei Agyemang Prempeh when you die someday?” he queried.

“Offinsohene alone fought against galamsey until he died. But as soon as he died, they have taken over Offinso and its enclave. Otumfuo, all the divisions are under your watch. Is it good what is happening? You tend to dissociate yourself from the politicians, but you are active participants like we would not be in this position,” he said.

“If Manhyia does not rise, I will stage a demonstration against you. The menace would not fester if you had nothing to do with it. I will mobilise the youth of Ashanti to register our displeasure because we have realised you are part of it,” he added.

Following his utterances, chiefs at Manhyia slaughtered a ram and declared Odike persona non-gratta at Manhyia.

They called on Oyerepa FM to also shut down for giving him a platform to speak against the stool, a request the station complied with on Friday, August 26th 2022.
