Embattled businessman and Founder of United Progressive Party, Akwasi Addai popularly known as Odike says he is at a loss as to where he went wrong.
The Kumasi Traditional Council has accused Odike of disrespecting the traditional authorities in the Ashanti Region and incitng the youths against them. The chiefs as a result banished Odike from entering the Manhyia palace and also slaughtered a ram to ask the gods to prevent any form of revolt against the chiefs.
Odike appeared on the morning show program of Oyerepa FM based in Kumasi where he accused the chiefs of not doing enough to end illegal mining known as galamsey in the region. He said the failure of the chiefs to halt the practice suggested their complicity in the act.
This comment angered the chiefs who have also asked the radio station on which the comment was made to shut down from today August 26, 2022 until the matter was fully resolved. Some management members and staff appeared before the chiefs to render apology but their apology was rejected. The Acting President of the Kumasi Traditional Council, Nana Bantamahene ordered the station to go back and render the apology on their network that day (yesterday) and from today (Friday) shut down until the matter is fully resolved.
When contacted, Odike, the man at the center of the whole controversy asked where he went wrong. He accused the traditional council of putting unwarranted fear in the people and acting as if they are above criticism. He called on the media and Ghanaians to unite and stand up for media freedom and free speech.
Mr.Addai said the chiefs must revoke the banishment they imposed on him, then the conversation can begin to unravel where he went wrong and if it becomes necessary to apologise, he does so. He also revealed that he is currently in hiding because he fears he could be attacked and killed.
