A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Captain (retd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, has admitted that he’s defending Aisha Huang in court purely for monetary reasons because she’s paid him handsomely.
According to him, the job is purely motivated by finances because he needs money to handle his bills.
Effah Dartey claimed he is ready to let go of the Aisha Huang case if the government will give him an appointment that will enable him to settle his bills.
“People who are blaming me for defending Aisha Huang don’t know what they are saying I have a wife, children and grandchildren, so I’m only working for my daily bread.” he said.
“I’m defending Aisha Huang for my daily bread…If government gives me an appointment to stop defending Aisha Huang, of course, I will stop. Anytime you see me defending Aisha Huang, it means she has paid me fully. As we speak, I’ve been paid fully.” he added.
The NPP stalwart was shockingly revealed as Aisha’s lawyer when her case was heard in court last week.
Effah Dartey served as a Member of Parliament for Berekum on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party from 2001-2009.
He was also a Deputy Minister of Interior.
The retired captain also served in the Ghana Armed Forces, leaving the service in August 1983.
In private life, he runs his own law firm.
Aisha Huang is a notorious Chinese galamseyer who was repatriated from Ghana in 2018 after her initial arrest.
Earlier this year, Huang was arrested in Ghana once again despite her repatriation.
She’s currently standing trial for charges relating to illegal mining, of which Effah Dartey insist she’s innocent of.
Speaking after their second court date, he said her entire trial is a circus created by the media.
“You will think they are standing trial for murder. When I came to court this morning and saw the charge sheet, I was surprised, so these are the two small charges you have put against these two. Do you have the fact?” he said.
