The lawyer of Chinese galamsey mining queen Aisha Huang, Captain (rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, has revealed that his client is a Ghanaian via marriage.
Effah Dartey revealed this in an interview with Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 14th 2022.
“I know she is married to a Ghanaian. I know this because of her Ghanaian husband, a businessman in Kumasi and a master’s degree holder from a Chinese University. He came to my office to engage me as a lawyer,” he submitted.
Aisha Huang pleaded not guilty to two charges of mining without a license and sale of minerals without a license on her recent court appearance Wednesday.
Speaking in court, Capt. Effah Dartey said the Ghanaian media has blown the case out of proportion.
He said considering the media reportage, you would think his client has committed murder when all she’s being charged with was a couple of mining offences.
“You will think they are standing trial for murder. When I came to court this morning and saw the charge sheet, I was surprised, so these are the two small charges you have put against these two. Do you have the fact?” he said.
He prayed for the court to grant his clients bail.
The prosecution meanwhile objected to the call, revealing there have been new arrests made in the case and that releasing the accused could lead to her interfering with the case.
They also cited her history of sneaking in and out of the country whenever she wants as a reason for her to be denied bail.
The trial judge sided with the prosecution and denied Aisha Huang bail.
