The Vice President of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Bright Simons, has given incumbent NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, a slight edge in his Chairmanship race against Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.
According to Simons, despite a massive blunder in the past week – Asiedu Nketia was caught on tape laying blame on the party for their failed 2020 election petition – the General Secretary has a lead in the polls which come off later today.
He wrote on his Twitter handle: “A titanic contest for the Chairmanship of Ghana’s main opposition party. Reports say regional delegate blocs are split. Grassroots youth seem to favour the incumbent Chairman, as does some large regions like Ashanti. But senior activists support incumbent General Secretary,”
“Whilst the race is considered unpredictable & thus too difficult to call, some analysts say the incumbent General Secretary, who has lost ground following comments on the party’s 2020 elections performance, still has a slight edge overall,” he added.
The NDC holds their national delegates’ congress at the Accra Sports Stadium today, December 17th 2022.
