The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has thanked former President, John Dramani Mahama, for leading a MoMo pledge drive that has raised over Ghc 1m for the party’s national delegates congress.
In a statement issued by National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi on Friday, December 16, the NDC disclosed that a total of GH¢1,083,000 was raked in from the contributions via Mobile Money.
“The party wishes to thank all Ghanaians who contributed their widows’ mite to what is expected to be a monumental Congress [Saturday].
“The Planning Committee also wishes to thank the many people who made donations to the Congress but wish to remain anonymous,” the statement said.
The NDC reserved special praise for former President Mahama, who additionally single-handedly funded the party’s 10th Youth and Women’s Conference held on Saturday, December 10 at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
“The party remains eternally grateful to Ghanaians, Former President and his generous benefactors for their continued support.” the statement added.
Ahead of the NDC’s delegates congress, the party started a pledge drive asking supporters and Ghanaians at large to help donate towards the organisation of the program.
On Facebook, ex-President Mahama put himself forward as the face of the program, writing: “I am inviting 500,000 willing Ghanaians, NDC supporters, sympathisers, and friends to donate a minimum of 10 Ghana Cedis each to help us fund the congress. You don’t have to be a member of the NDC to donate.
