Former Member of Parliament(MP) for Adenta Constituency, Kojo Adu Asare has revealed that, National Chairman hopeful of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia abandoned the John Dramani Mahama campaign over running mate snub.
He said, the chief scribe was peeved because he was not selected as the running mate during the 2020 elections.
It will be recalled that, the National Democraric Congress went into the 2020 elections with Jane Nana Opoky Agyemang the running mate after the demise of former vice president, Kwesi Amissah Arthur.
According to Adu Asare, Asiedu Nketiah popularly known as general mosquito was interested in the position and after losing out on it, decided not to actively campaign for John Mahama.
“Two months to the election, Asiedu Nketia abandoned the Mahama campaign. He said he was going to campaign from somewhere. He locked his office and was nowhere to be found,” he said Ahotor FM.
Adu Asare continued “Asiedu Nketia was angry that he was not appointed as Running Mate so he abandoned the campaign and said he was going to do his campaign from somewhere. So why do you come back to blame Chairman for a system you abandoned”.
“You detached yourself from the system and when it came to the point that we needed someone to go and do this thing you appoint yourself that you’ll do it. When you got embarrassed in the witness box, now you want to blame Chairman and even kick in Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata and others. He was the General Secretary at the time and everyone felt he has good communications skills but he was mesmerized in court,” Adu Asare said.
The National Democratic Congress heads to the polls to elect its executives to steer the affairs of the party in the 2024 general election.
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and current Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo have been on each other’s neck for the position.
