Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakawa, says President Nana Akufo-Addo should have apologised to Ghanaians for the hardship in the country and his abysmal performance in managing it.
According to Ablakwa, that would have been the best address he could have given.
He was speaking after Nana Addo delivered a speech to Ghanaians on Sunday, October 30th 2022 to address the state of the economy.
“Taking office and saying that I believe in big government, appointing the highest number of ministers in the history of this country, the fiscal recklessness, going on a borrowing spree where some of his appointees stood to benefit, conflict of interest in that borrowing where the World Bank now tells us that end of this year debt to GDP will be 104 per cent.
“The President should have apologised to the people of Ghana for what we have been put through,” Ablakwa stated.
Ablakwa noted that “it is the first time the President is acknowledging the level of the mess that we find ourselves in.” but that is not enough to assuage the anger of Ghanaians.
President Akufo-Addo during his speech acknowledged the current hardship and said “we are all going through this together”
He pledged his government would find a solution to the situation, beginning with securing a $3bn loan from the International Monetary Fundn (IMF).
