Dr Clement Apaak, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Builsa South in the Upper East Region, has reacted to the shocking resignation of the new UK Prime Minister, Liz Truss.
According to Apaak, whilst the UK’s PM resigns for failing to meet public concerns, Nana Akufo-Addo in Ghana is insulting his critics for complaining about the bad state of the country.
Apaak took to social media to express his views on the interesting parallel.
He wrote on Twitter: “In UK a PM resigns 44 days into office, fired Finance Minister earlier, due to failure to address the concerns of the people. In GH, NADAA calls us names because we are complaining about a currency running diarrhoea, galloping inflation, higher fuel prices, high cost of living!”
His comment comes after the British Prime Minister stepped down earlier today.
At a press conference at No. 10 downing Street on Thursday, she told reporters the circumstance that brought her to office, recognizing the “great economic and international instability”.
Adding that, “….I recognize given the situation I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative party.”
The outgoing prime minister added that she has communicated her decision to King Charles III, and that she will stay in power until the Conservative Party elects a new prime minister.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo a few days ago during his Ashanti Regional tour, said that if people say they will not vote for him but will vote for the NDC because of unfulfilled promises then that is their own problem and he won’t do anything to change their minds.
“…If it comes to the election and you choose to vote for the NDC, that is your own issue that is not my worry because nobody holds your thumb to vote; it is your own work. The important thing is that I understand my responsibility, and we will deal with it,” the president said during an interview on Kumasi-based Otec FM.
His comments were widely derided as insulting especially considering he had fought hard on four occasions to beg Ghanaians to vote for him, but has now changed his tune now that he has served his constitutionally mandated two terms.
