Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has praised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his commitment to the development of Gonjaland.
According to him, the chiefs of Gonjaland are immensely proud of Bawumia for the years of service and dedication he has shown to the area and have accepted him as a son and not a stranger.
“I want to say that the Vice President, His Excellency Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is not a stranger to this [Kpansheigu] Palace. The Vice President is not a stranger and I dare say that Dr Bawumia is not a stranger to any palace in Yagbon in Gonja land. He has been serving the Gonja Chiefs for many many years and has been serving the skins of Gonja for many years,” he told the regent and people of Kpansheigu.
He added that “I can say without a shred of doubt that nobody has visited Jakpa palace more than the Vice President. He literally lives there, he literally sleeps there because he sees himself as a ‘Gonjalander’ and sees himself as a son and grandson of Jakpa and all of Gonja has also accepted him as our brother, our junior father and as our family member”.
Dr Bawumia is widely tipped to lead the governing New Patriotic Party as flagbearer in the 2024 elections, a bid which has received massive endorsement from grassroots, notable and leading members of the party.
At his 59th birthday celebration, several felicitations to him contained declaration and support for the yet-to-be-announced ambition, a development election watchers have asserted puts the Vice President in the lead in the upcoming presidential primaries of the party.
Meanwhile, Abu Jinapor has declared the NPP will win back the Salaga South Seat in election 2024.
According to the lawmaker, the loss of the seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was a result of issues that could have been avoided, stressing that the constituency has been a stronghold of the NPP.
“In the Gonjaland, this is the bedrock and birth place of the New Patriotic Party. J.A. Braimah in private life was the person who formed the NPP here and at the height of President Nkrumah’s power and political authority, here in Kpembe NPP was always popular and we won all the elections from 1950, 1951 and even the independence election through J.A. Braimah won it in this constituency. So this is the heart ground of the New Patriotic Party,” Jinapor said.
“Even when we are struggling with votes in other parts of Gonjaland, Salaga South always stands firm for the NPP. Something little just went amidst in 2020 and I have all confidence that with your support and leadership and the support of the Kpembewura and the party that by the Grace of God through the blessings of the Kpembewura and the Imam and all the people of Kpembe, Salaga South will come back home to the elephant family,” he added.
