Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan in the Western Region, Joe Ghartey has formerly declared his intention to vie for the Flag bearer position of the New Patriotic Party.
He made this declaration when he met the Expanded Regional Executive Committee of the Western Region of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday November 7, 2022.
Addressing the gathering in Sekondi-Takoradi, Joe Ghartey stated that it had come to his attention that some presidential aspirants had already come into the region to meet some delegates.
Announcing his intention to the NPP executives, the Former Minister Railways Development said, he is ready to contest to lead the party.
“as long as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, God willing I will definitely contest for the Flag Bearer position for the New Patriotic Party.”
Joe Ghartey recalled that before the 2020 general election he was interviewed on Radio 360, a radio station in Takoradi whether he would run for parliament in 2024.
According to him, he will be going for the flagbearership position instead.
Mr Ghartey, however, bemoaned his exclusion from the Nana Addo-led government due to his presidential ambition but maintained that “I will forever support this government”.
Mr Joe Ghartey is a former Attorney General Minister of Justice and former Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
