Bono Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe Abronye has insisted on his claims that, Former President Mahama received GH¢ 14 million as ex-gratia in 2013.

The loud mouth communicator also alleged that, the former president as part of his end of service benefit package is fleecing the country of an amount of GH¢ 15 million since 2017 when he lost power.

This is contained a press release by the regional chairman refuting claims contained in a press statement issues by the former president on September 5.

In the press release, dated September 6, 2022, Chairman Abronye alleged that the former president took the GH¢ 14 million ex-gratia in his Agricultural Development Bank Account.

“Let me reiterate my position that Mr. John Mahama indeed received 14 million as ex gratia in 2013 which was credited in his Agricultural Development Bank Account. To add to that, Mr. John Mahama is the only President in the fourth Republic who has received the fattest ex gratia and as matter of fact, he continues to receive an unprecedented end of service package which no former president of this country has ever enjoyed.”

Giving a breakdown of his allegation, Abronye said, the former president receives the biggest amount as ex gratia among the former presidents and continue to receive it till date.

“Mr. Mahama retired on salary of GH¢ 22,809.00 up from the non-taxable salary of GH¢ 15.972.00 previously approved for president. However, he now receives GH¢ 35,000.00 monthly due to the recent increase in emoluments as recommended by the Presidential Emoluments Committee on the conditions of service on Article 71 office holders report.

This means that, since former President Mahama was voted out of office, he has received a non-taxable salary of GH¢1,9034, 832.00. Mr. Mahama also receives GH¢ 9,123.00 monthly as rent. This means that since 2017, when Ghanaians voted against John Mahama, he has received an accommodation allowance totaling GH¢ 629,487.00,” the statement added.

Abronye therefore accused the office of the former president as being disingenuous in their press release to counter his claims without providing any evidence of what the former president received as ex gratia.

This allegation comes on the back of the former president’s president to review the constitution  to cancel ex gratia payment if voted into power again.

Below is the full statement from Abronye, giving a breakdown of Former President Mahama package.
