Former President John Dramani Mahama has no preferred candidate in the National Democratic Party (NDC) primaries, a statement from his family has clarified.
The NDC regional primaries are currently in full swing and some candidates are said to be favourites of the former President, but he has seen it fit to distance himself from any one candidate.
“Reports reaching the family of H.E. John Mahama indicate some persons associating their names with certain candidates in the upcoming internal elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” the statement, signed by family secretary Rafik Mahama, read.
“For the avoidance of doubt, no member of the Mahama family, including H.E John Mahama, has any preferred candidates. The family has absolute belief in the ability of the party’s delegates to elect, out of the party’s rich pool of qualified candidates, the best candidates to serve in the various positions being contested.
“The Mahama family wishes all candidates the very best of luck in the upcoming internal elections of the NDC,” the statement added.
The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced its regional election conferences nationwide today, Friday, November 11, 2022.
At least 712 candidates will be contesting the various positions that are up for grabs.
This includes Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Deputy Secretary, Organiser and Deputy Organiser, Treasurer and Deputy treasurer.
Others are Communications Officer and Deputy, Women’s Organiser and Deputy, the Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Youth Organiser and Deputy.
