The newly installed First Lady of Kenya, Rachel Ruto, hosted Ghana’s Second Lady Samira Bawumia at the State House in Nairobi, Kenya, on her first day of work.
Rachel Ruto watched her husband swear the oath of office as Kenya’s new President on Tuesday, September 13th 2022.
She commenced work as First Lady today, Wednesday, September 14th 2022 and hosted Ghana’s second lady as one of her very first guests.
Following the meeting, Rachel Ruto took to Twitter to inform the public.
“Glad to have this morning met Her Excellency @SBawumia, the Spouse to the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana who paid me a courtesy call at State House, Nairobi,” Rachel said.

Samira Bawumia and her husband, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, visited Kenya on Monday, September 12th 2022 to witness the inauguration of President-elect William Ruto.
Ruto took the oath of office on Tuesday and started work officially today.
Rachel takes over as Kenya’s first lady from Margaret Kenyatta, who has held the position since 2013.
In a related development, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also held talks with President William Ruto.
“Yesterday, I attended the inauguration of H.E Dr. William Samoei Ruto, the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya. Dr. William Ruto, until his election on 15th August 2022, had served as a two-term Deputy President in Kenya from 2012-2022.
“It was such a colourful and moving ceremony which further entrenched the democratic credentials of Kenya.
“Today, I met with President Ruto at the State House on his first day at work and we had fruitful discussions on deepening the economic cooperation between Ghana and Kenya.” he wrote on Facebook following the meeting.
