President Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the controversial Community Day SHS E-Block at Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality, as part of his 2-day working tour of the Volta Region.
The GH¢9 million project, started under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, has 26 classrooms, Science and Computer Laboratories, as well as other ancillary facilities.
The project was a subject of controversy last year, when the Paramount Chief, Torgbui Amenya Fiti issued a 4-month ultimatum to government to complete and operationalise the school.
His comments received backlash from some government officials, including the President, who in a radio interview asked Torgbui to look for money and complete the project himself.
The comment from the president angered a lot of of people especially from the Volta Region including the parliamentary caucus. MP for the area, Dzifa Abla Gomashie then launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise the needed revenue to complete the project and shame the president and the government.
Nonetheless, the project was completed and populated with students for the 2021/22 academic year.
Togbe Fiti in an earlier meeting expressed his appreciation to the President for completing the project and asked that it be named after his (Fiti) family for the various roles his predecessors played in bringing the senior high school to Aflao.
He also thanked the president for the creation of the Aflao Traditional Council.
He however appealed to him for constructions of some deplorable roads in the Municipality.
