A Presidential staffer, Samuel Bryan Buabeng, has attacked the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, after the Asantehene received an official invitation to Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
A letter circulating on social media in recent days revealed that Otumfour Osei Tutu II had received an official invite to attend the late British monarch’s funeral and related activities on Monday, September 19th 2022.
Reacting to the letter, Buabeng said Togbe Afede the ‘local champion’ can keep fighting over Yam festival donations whilst Otumfour travels outside to the queen’s funeral.
His comments follow a recent bust-up at the annual Te Za, the Yam Festival, in Asogli.
Honourable Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, made some donations at the festival but they were publicly rejected.
The rejection occurred despite Agyapong having been officially invited to the festival.
The Asogli State secretary later clarified that Agyapong was mistakenly invited to the funeral.
According to Stephen Tetteh, who signed the letter inviting Mr. Agyapong, the MP had earlier through his aides requested that he be invited to the festival. However, the Council of Chiefs of the Asogli State declined the request in view of some disparaging comments Mr. Agyapong made against Togbe Afede over the years.
Following that embarrassing incident, the Otumfour received his royal funeral invite, which the Presidential staffer decided to use as a crutch to attack Togbe Afede.
“The local champion Efo James and his subjects should continue fighting people over Yam festival donations.” he wrote.
Before ascending to the Asogli throne, Togbe Afede XIV was known in private life as James Akpo.
