The Ashanti Regional Communication Officer of NPP, Mr. Dennis Kwakwa has revealed a clandestine plan by the Opposition National Democratic Congress to pay Journalists to tarnish the image of Akufo-Addo and the NPP government.
Mr. Kwakwa revealed this during a press conference held in Kumasi yesterday as he says he has details of bribing schemes and skirmishes by the NDC of some selected media personnel in the country to run the government down.
At a press briefing, the party’s Ashanti regional communication director, Denis Kwakwa noted that the bribery scandal involving Nana Kwadwo Jantuah of multimedia is the tip of the iceberg and not just a one-off.
He said information available to them shows the NDC has a well orchestrate plan they intend to execute as part of their plan towards the 2024 general election.
‘‘We know the plan of the NDC and their quarterly payments to some journalists in the country to tarnish the image of the NPP and Nana Addo’’
‘Kwadwo Jantuah was paid a hefty sum of 2000 us dollars by the NDC with the aim of influencing him to insult and denigrate president Nana Addo and also make his government unpopular ‘’
‘‘Our deep search into the matter has revealed that this was not just a one-off payment, but a quarterly contract and mediated by Sammy Gyamfi and Abass Nurudeen, the national communications director and regional communications officer respectively,” he added.
The communication officer said, the revelation has affirmed their believed that some journalist in the region are executing an agenda against the NPP.
‘Indeed, the recent revelations only go to affirm our long-held opinion that the particular journalist in question, Nana Kwadwo Jantuah, has always been biased against the NPP and the government of the day. The journalist is on record to have admitted that indeed he has taken the money but termed it as a gift and not a bribe’’
‘‘Many communicators have had confrontational banter with the journalist over his biased posture in moderating his shows. Notably among them are Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah (Ashanti regional director of the national service scheme), and Mr. repeal Sarfo Patrick (the regional youth organizer of the ruling NPP’’ he noted.
Mr. Kwakwa is urging well-meaning Ghanaians, the GJA and NMC to take the allegation scandal seriously as this could derail gains within the media space.
