A Pro Bawumia group, ‘The Movement for Bawumia 2024’, also known as ‘The Bawus’, has slammed Alan Kyeremanten as unfit to lead a noble party like the NPP.
According to the group, not only does the Trade Minister, popularly known as Alan ‘Cash’, have no familial ties to the founding of the party, but he also abandoned the party after losing the 2008 elections to take up a United Nations gig.
In their estimation, this disqualifies him from the upcoming NPP Presidential primaries to determine the next flagbearer of the party ahead of the 2024 elections.
National Chairman of the group, Mr Duncan Opoku Boateng, made his views known in reaction to a health walk organised by a pro-Alan Kyeremanten group in Kumasi over the weekend.
According to him, there are no records showing that Alan Kyeremanten played any role in the formation of the NPP.
In contrast, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia‘s late father, Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, was instrumental in the founding of the Northern People’s Party, the precursor to the modern-day New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Emmanuel Quarshie (Hitman) on Accra 100.5 FM, he said Alhaji Bawumia, alongside S.K Dombo, were instrumental in the early days of the NPP, hence the party’s well-known Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.
He said Alan Kyeremanten has no comparable roots in the party.
Couple this with his decision to abandon the party in its difficult times after losing the 2008 primaries and Mr Boateng says Alan Cash should be disqualified from the race by the party’s leaders.
His comments come after the pro-Alan health walk degenerated into tribalism and bigotry with Hopeson Adorye’s well-publicised comments that Northerners can only be running mates and cannot lead the NPP.
