Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy General Secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen, has lamented over the insanely high cost of living currently plaguing Ghanaians.
Speaking during an interview on Okay Fm’s Morning Show ‘Ade Akye Abia’, Boahen said the economic hardship is reflected in the inflated prices of goods and services which has touched even a cheap commodity like Akpeteshie.
“I am not a person who likes to politicise issues but the bottom line is that prices of goods are shooting up and we are compelled to ask ourselves if we will be able to celebrate the Christmas. Do you know akpeteshie which used to be cheap is now selling at GH¢4 per tot? Now a full bottle of akpeteshie is going for GH¢25,” he lamented.
Boahen added: “It shows how prices of every item has shot up and it is very alarming. We need to accept the reality,”
Despite his admission, the NPP stalwart maintains the party will ‘break the 8’ in 2024 and retain power.
He has thrown his support behind Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who he insists would easily win the NPP flagbearer race and become the next President of Ghana.
“But that notwithstanding my inner self tells me that Dr Bawumia will win,” he added.
In a previous interview, Obiri Boahen heaped praises on Bawumia and said he has transformed Ghana’s economy which is what makes him fit as the next President.
“[We currently have] Bawumianisation of the system. Today, when going to the stadium to watch a match, [you purchase an] e-ticket. When he wasn’t on the scene in Ghana, did we have all these innovations? When he wasn’t on the national scene, the name Bawumia or Bawumianisaiton of the system was not around.
“So when I take it upon myself that I’m supporting such a person, I do not only plan to see him as a Ghanaian leader, as long as I live I plan to make him a global leader and a future leader of the United Nations,” Obiri Boahen said.
