Lawyer and Former Deputy General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen says, Bawumia has a duty to perform as vice president and as such should be allowed to carry out his mandate.
He believes that there is a need for the Vice President to be left to perform his official responsibilities as enshrined in the constitution.
These comments come on the back of some internal murmurings about the Vice President’s recent visit to the Northern Region on a working visit.
Some party members have accused the Vice President for using his tour of the regions to campaign, something they say goes against the party’s code of conduct.
The Alan camp in the Northern region has accused the Vice President for defying the party rules and campaigning when doors have not been opened for people interested in contesting for the party’s flagbearership to show their interest.
Nana Obiri Boahen, speaking on Accra-based OKAY FM said Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is just performing his duty as Vice President.
He says as a Vice President of the country, he has responsibilities expected of him and it’s therefore, imperative that he is left to perform his duties.
“The Vice President is a Vice President who has responsibilities to perform. So if there is a show of interest in becoming a President of the country shouldn’t he perform his duty as the Vice President? So if he is a Vice President shouldn’t he travel? So if CEOs, Deputy Ministers and Ministers travel with him, does it go against the laws of the country? “
He could not fathom why people had challenges with the fact that his entourage was made up of influential persons in the political party.
