The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has alleged that the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, has a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser exclusively dedicated to driving her extensive collection of makeup and her makeup artist around the country.
Gyamfi made the claim during an appearance on the Me Man Nti political talk show on Neat 100.9 in Accra.
According to Gyamfi, similar to the President having his own dedicated Toyota V8 driving around his Presidential chair, the 2nd lady also has a similar arrangement with a government Land Cruiser.
Gyamfi made the allegation against the Second Lady after once again, criticising the President carting his chair around the country wherever he goes.
“…For a special car, Lexus to move his chair and when you criticize him, he will say if you don’t vote for me, I don’t care. Let’s even say it’s Tundra, will that be accepted if it was Mahama?” Gyamfi queried.
He continued: “There’s another person; Samira Bawumia, do you know her convoy includes a brand new Landcruiser carrying makeup; makeup artiste; it follows her everywhere. Who’s paying for that, the taxpayer,” he said.
In recent months, a controversy has erupted over the waste of taxpayer money by the current government, epitomised by the President’s private jet travels.
Another thing the opposition has pointed to is the fact that the President has a special chair which follows him around the country to all his engagements.
According to the NDC, taxpayer money is being wasted to cart this car around to follow the President like a king.
However, the NPP has dismissed those claims.
“This propaganda about this presidential chair ought to stop because we know that the president goes with his handlers and presidential staffers…to suggest that this chair is having its own car and is being fueled when it can easily be placed in the boot of a car and go anywhere they want, you try to make a lot of noise about it,” Dr. Kabiru Mahama, a Technical Advisor at the Office of the Vice President recently said.
