The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, paid a surprise visit to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, on the afternoon of Thursday, October 20th 2022.
The visit came ahead of this year’s Maulid celebrations, slated to be held on Saturday, October 22nd.
Maulid or celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammed (SAW) is an annual program or event observed by Muslims largely adherents of Sufi Orders around the World.
The Vice President surprised Sheikh Sharubutu with a visit to see for himself how preparations are going on for the grand event on Saturday.
“The Maulid is known across West Africa and beyond and people will come from all over. As my father is preparing to host this big function I have to come as a son to see for myself how things are going. And I am so happy that preparations are in full force”, Dr. Bawumia said.
“In shaa Allah the Maulid will come on well, and I pray that the Maulid ends successfully,” he added.
Prior to addressing the Chief Imam and his Council, the Veep held a closed-door meeting with Sheikh Sharubutu.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Prof. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu initiated this practice in Ghana 65 years ago and the program always presents opportunities and platforms for discourse on the National Agenda or Programs of particular interest to Ghanaian Muslims.
Most Arab-Muslim-dominated countries worldwide observe the practice in many colourful ways although a common platform of convergence is the practice of recitation of the Holy Quran, lecture series to imbibe the teachings and practical application of the Prophet’s lifestyle as a guide for the living and above all the cooking and distribution of food which has largely characterized the anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Ghanaian Muslims are no exception to the practice of observing Maulid and His Eminence the National Chief Imam leads in the celebration on an annual basis.
