The 2020 Presidential Candidate and Former President John Dramani Mahama says he has not decided to contest in the upcoming flagbearership race.
He says, he will make his decision in the coming year whether he will put himself up for election or not.
According to him, he prefers to keep his opponents guessing as to who will contest for the election and so he is leaving his decision late.
The National Democratic Congress(NDC) goes to the polls to elect their flagbearer to lead the party into the 2024 general election next year.
Mr. Mahama in an interview with VOA’s Straight Talk Africa, he said “I haven’t” when asked if he has decided to contest in the 2024 general election.
“It’s good to keep you opponent guessing so even if I’m not running, I’m not going to say I’m not running. So a decision will be taken early next in the first quarter.” He said.
The former president plans taking the decision to coincide with the timing of the NDC party’s primaries.
“That’s is when we hold our party’s primaries for the presidential candidacy and then we will see,” he added.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is poised to win the 2024 general election which they have begun organizing the party’s base.
The former President has been tipped to face off with former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor who is reportedly readying to himself to contest in the flagbearership race.
However, many political watchers believe Mahama stands tall in winning the race if he decides to contest for the flagbearer.
The NDC has scheduled November and December to conduct its constituencies, Regional and National Executive elections.
