The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will not be attending the funeral of the late British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.

According to the latest reports, the Asantehene has communicated his inability to attend the funeral to King Charles III.

In recent days, news that Otumfour received an invite to the royal funeral circulated on social media and sparked a mostly tribal back and forth, as Ashantis revelled in the invite and other tribes rubbished its significance.

Amidst the ongoing back and forth, newest reports from Opemsuo Fm indicated the Asantehene has communicated his inability to attend the funeral.

“His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will not be able to attend the events marking the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Official communication sent to His Majesty’s Household and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on September 15, 2022.” a tweet from the Asante Nation on Twitter, which shared the news, read.

In a follow-up tweet which appeared to confirm the news, a royal correspondent, Richard Palmer reported King Charles III spoke with multiple royals on the night of Saturday, September 17th, including the Asantehene.

“It’s a busy time for the grieving Royal Family. On top of public appearances, there are behind-the-scenes meetings, rehearsals, and planning sessions. Last night the King had telephone audiences with the King of the Ashanti, the Presidents of Ghana, UAE, Egypt; PM of Bangladesh.” Palmer tweeted.

As communicated earlier, Buckingham Palace has officially accepted the unavailability of Asantehene to attend the funeral of the late Queen.
