The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has opened up on his presidential ambition to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as it flagbearer.

As part of his visit to Kenya to grace the swearing in ceremony of President William Ruto, Dr. Bawumia was interviewed by private Kenya TV station, KTN News.

The Vice President in answering a question about is presidential ambition, pledged his full commitment to the President as he believe that is the most important thing now.

Stating his commitment and loyalty to his role as a vice president and seeking relief for Ghanaians, Dr. Bawumia said, the 2024 election is not the most pressing issue as he remains focus on helping the Akufo-Addo government.

“I think right now, I’m just focused on helping my boss the president Nana Akufo-Addo fufill his vision and deliver on his agenda. We don’t really have too much time for thinking about 2024 right now. I think that if you get to 2024 and you don’t have a record, you will have nothing to campaign on. So right now, we are focused on that and we don’t know what the future holds but we will focus on the work for now.” He said.

As part of breaking the 8years cycle agenda, the new patriotic will be electing their flagbearer next year to lead the party in the 2024 general elections.

Some names have popped up as likely candidates to lead the party. While some have confirmed their ambition, others are yet to openly make statements to that effect.

Name such as Vice President Bawumia;  Minister of Trade  and Industry ,Alan Kyerematen; Dr. Afriyie Akoto the Agric Ministers, Assin Central Member of Partliament, Kennedy Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko for Energy Minister and former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agaypong.
