Former President John Dramani Mahama says poor decisions by the Akufo-Addo led administration is the cause of Ghana’s economic situation.
The former president said this when he held a meeting with the Ambassador on matters of mutual benefits between Ghana and the United States.
Mr. Mahama attributed the economic difficulties to the corruption and misappropriation of COVID-19 funds, which he alleged were share among party officials.
He also cited the banking sector cleanup which led to the collapse of some financial institutions, poor decisions as some of the bad decisions the government has taken contributing to the dire economic situation in the country.
According to the former President, Government received enough support external support which should have been enough to cushion the country from any economic shocks
Stating the external source such as the IMF and World Bank support he said the government received close to $30 billion, “a huge amount , which was more than sufficient to handle any crisis if the money has been used well and not abused.”
He however noted that, the presence of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will instill discipline in how government manage the economy.
“Confidence will only be restored when people know that we are in a programme and that the government will not behave as reckelessly as it did in the past,” he stated.
He added that, “we have been very retrained in our opposition because we know the seriousness of the situation, we have been very generous in giving advice about what they should do. But this is a very arrogant set of people who would not want to act like they took from somebody else. Unfortunately, the men don’t seem to know what to do.”
John Mahama raised issues of what he perceive as hostility towards the National Democratic Congress by the Electoral Commission as part of issues discussed during the meeting.
