Ahead of the 2024 general election, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is planning to roll out a policy dubbed ‘1-Lawyer 1-Constituency’ to deal with internal party legal matters.
This was made known by the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo at the Party’s two-day conference for lawyers of the party over the weekend.
The policy ‘1-Lawyer 1-Constituency’ is seeking to provide all 275 constituencies with lawyers to help resolve internal party disagreements including electoral disputes.
The Party Chairman insisted on the need to have these lawyers for the constituency as early as possible to get them feel part of the process and “and be part of those constituencies” from the onset
“If we can ensure that we get people who will volunteer to be assigned to constituencies and then be introduced to the constituencies, work with them, visit them, have meetings with them and then by the time we get into the [2024] elections, they would have been part and parcel of those constituencies.”
The Policy is thought to have originated from the Former President, John Dramani Mahama who was also present at the event.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo in paying tribute to the hardworking party lawyers urged the party to have a legal aid fund from the party members and called on lawyers in the party to volunteer their services for the party.
