Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says, the government led by President Akufo-Addo is fight corruption through Digitalization.
The Vice President said, corruption is systemic and as such you need systems to be able to tackle is efficiently.
Dr. Bawumia speaking at the Ghana Baptist Convention 59th Annual Session in Ejura in the Ashanti Region, the vice president lamented how inimical corruption is in our society.
“The problem the we have as a nation are, we are largely undisciplined society, a corrupt society, a lawless society, an untrustworthy society, an inefficient government bureaucracy, a tax dodging society, an informal society and nontransparent society.”
Addressing how important systems are in dealing with issues such as corruption, Dr. Bawumia stressed that a country that wants to deal with corruption to have a system.
“Unfortunately, as a country we have has no data and system to check the prevalence of these inimical elements to our development.
“In fact, since independence, governments after governments have by large, not focused on building systems to reduce bribery and corruption, the systems that will make the delivery of public service efficient, systems that will enhance domestic revenue mobilization and the systems that will make life generally easier for Ghanaians.” He added.
The Vice President stated that, it is for this reason that the Akufo-Addo led government embarked on the digitalization agenda,
“This is why we have adopted the policy of digitalization. This government is building a system that will enhance transparency, promote accountability, discipline, trustworthiness and enable inclusiveness.”
