The North East Regional Minister,  Yidana Zakaria says the NPP candidate for 2024 who has the cleanest record with no taint of corruption allegations is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking in an interview on Dreamz Fm in Bolgatanga, he said the current Vice President has conducted himself impeccably since entering public life and there is zero evidence of any corruption scandal tainting his record.

According to him, Dr Bawumia is the right leader for Ghana because he has demonstrated leadership and sacrifice during his time in office, indicating Bawumia’s interest is not in wealth or he would have stayed at the Bank of Ghana.

“I don’t think that in his (Bawumia) person and his service to mother Ghana you can tag him with such accusations like corruption. He has served the nation so well and if there was time for the Vice President to serve us even better, then he must be given the opportunity to serve us at the level of President,” Zakaria said.

“You know his track record. If it were just the case of seeking to satisfy his personal needs then he probably would have remained at the Bank of Ghana where he was doing so well,” he added.

Opining further, he asked Ghanaians to be cognizant of the fact that the current economic difficulties are due to global realities and not mismanagement on the part of the government.

“The difficulties are not just situated within the Ghanaian context but globally. What do you want us to do, a nation that depends largely on the economies of the West to make it? A nation that imports more than we export, a nation where Ghanaians change the cedi into dollars not because they want to do business but just to go and keep in their rooms,” he added.
