Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini former Gender and Social Protection Minister should not take for granted the confident reposed on her by her constituents.
The Constitutional lawyer has expressed his worry over Sarah Adwoa Safo’s absence from Parliament for close to a year.
According to the former Minister under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama, the actions by the lawmaker is an affront to the Institution of Parliament which needs to be addressed
To him, for a Member of Parliament who makes laws and is aware of the various avenues to get her issues addressed but has decided to disregard them sends a very wrong signal to the people of Ghana.
Speaking of Accra-based OKAY FM, while he has no problem with Adwoa Safo, the rules of parliament much be respected.
“I know Adwoa Safo very well. I don’t have a problem with her but I’m a constitutional lawyer, I believe in the sanctity of the constitution, I believe in discipline with respect to our law and I believe that Parliament is not sacred and that is the foundation of our democracy.
“So if people have died, some made tremendous sacrifices to elect you as a Member of Parliament, the least you can do is to give them respect and that respect is to give them representation. I am saying that Adwoa Safo, the people of Dome Kwabenya reposed confidence in you to represent them, today you’ve left them, why have you done that?” he quizzed.
He added that, “If you have reason to absent yourself from Parliament for more than 15 sitting days or even for one year…I’m not talking about the videos she makes, I am saying that if you read the constitution Article 97 (1) it tells you what to do if you want to leave Parliament for a year. There are people who have left Parliament and the speaker is aware. So if the constitution gives you the opportunity to do what is right, you don’t choose to do otherwise. You are a Member of Parliament who should respect the laws,” he said on Accra-based OKAY FM.
He noticed that the people of Ghana are even worried and are questioning why the issues with regard to Adwoa Safo are being treated the way it is been handled.
To Inusah Fuseini, the image of Parliament is being soiled and the earlier it is rectified the better for the country’s Parliament.
