A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odoben-Abrakwa, P.C Appiah-Ofori, has opined that the NPP MPs who called for the sack of Ken Ofori-Atta are after the wrong person.
According to him, if things are going wrong in the country, the ultimate responsibility lies away from Ofori-Atta and with the President.
He also said as far as he can tell, the Finance has done nothing warranting being fired!
Speaking on Onua TV, he said if there are roads yet to be constructed in a country, it does not automatically make it the fault of the Roads Minister.
“Those doing that I don’t understand them, I don’t know the sin the finance minister has committed. If the road becomes deplorable, why do you say the road minister should resign? What sin has the finance minister committed, has he stolen money, if he has not stolen money and it is just that things have gone bad, is he the one to be held responsible?” he quizzed.
“Minister of Road and Transport, and you say because a road is spoilt the minister should be sacked. Sometimes when they are doing it, they don’t give it careful thought.”
He further added that the country’s economic hardships are not the fault of the finance minister.
“What specific sin has the finance minister committed? Has he stolen the country’s money for wrongful purposes? If things are not going well in the country, how is it the finance minister’s fault?” he asked rhetorically.
Over 80 NPP MPs called for the Finance Minister to be fired this week,, vowing not to approve any government business in the house until he is removed for mismanaging the economy.
However, the MPs relented following a meeting with the President and agreed to hold off their demands until the ongoing IMF negotiations are completed.
