A member of the Convention People’s Party and a private legal practitioner Mr Kwame Jantuah has questioned the credibility of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta who is leading the Ghanaian delegation negotiating with the IMF.
According to the lawyer, the president insistence on allowing the Finance Minister to complete the negotiation may not be an apt decision.
He says, the finance minister does not deserve any more time as his leadership and decisions has negative impact on the economy.
Speaking TV3 on Saturday, Mr Jantuah said, “when you look at where Ghana is today, our Finance and everybody, including the people who voted [the President] in into power, are saying do away with the Finance Minister, you are coming to tell us what, that we should give him time.
He added that, allowing Ken Ofori-Atta to finish with the negotiations and presentation of the budget may not favor the next finance minister.
“So if the new Finance Minister who comes in if he does not agree to some of the things in the budget how does he implement it. The international investors, do they have confidence in Ofori-Atta?
“IMF, do they have confidence in Ofori-Atta when Ofori Atta spat in their face and said we are not going to IMF today or tomorrow, we are a proud people, are you not sitting in front of them now?” he quizzed.
“They will take us through the process, they work with data and the data doesn’t match up with their eyes, you might have the first lines of the approval but it is the board that is important.”he added.
Mr. Kwame Jantuah also said, the President Should have spoken long ago about the economy rather than delaying.
In his view, the President should have adopted the approach he used during the Covid period, for the economic crisis.
Answering question regarding the president’s address to the nation today he believe it is coming a bit too late.
“He should have spoken to us ages ago, he should have spoken to us the moment the crisis started. Ghanaians, we don’t feel the President as the leader.
“The moment it started, the way he was speaking to us during Covid, he should have adopted that.”he said.
