MPs of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC are said to be aggrieved over the “unlawful” removal of Leader Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka Mubarak as front benchers of the Minority in Parliament.

Reports inside the party suggest several MPs are openly revolting against the change in leadership of the opposition in Parliament without appropriate consultations with the MPs for a Caucus Decision.

The Minority Caucus is said to be unaware of any such changes in leadership and members do not recognize anybody appointed from outside the Caucus.

The changes in leadership is said to be a Palace Coup orchestrated by John Mahama and party Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah to cut down the rising influence of the front bench led by Haruna Iddrisu who posed a threat to Mahama.

Whereas MPs from the Central Region are said to support the changes, almost all the MPs from the 5 Northern Regions, Greater Accra and Bono and Ahafo Regions are said to be against the changes.

MPs from the Volta Region welcome the elevation of Adaklu MP Kwame Agboza but some are still not sold on the changes.

A letter signed by General Secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey said Adjumako MP and current ranking member on the Finance Committee Cassiel Ato Forson will replace Haruna Iddrisu as leader of the

Last week, MyNewsGh.com hinted about the massive shake up at the front of the minority in parliament to reposition and to re-energise their side in parliamentary debates.

The massive change was to see the movement of some notable and vociferous National Democratic Congress Members of Parliament join minority leader Haruna Iddrisu on the front bench.

The hint said Deputy Minority Leader James Klutse Avedzi and Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak was to vacate their seats on the front row and make way for Former Deputy Finance Minister and MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency Dr Casel Ato Forson and Kwame Governs Agbodza, MP for the Adaklu Constituency together with Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for the Klottey-Korle Constituency.

It is not clear immediately clear why the likes of Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak was removed from the front bench, however it is believed that the seemingly sour relationship between the former Sports Minister and Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin may have significantly influenced his sitting place in parliament.
