Chairperson of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, has called for the two frontrunners for the party’s flagbearer position to be paired together.
According to the former lawmaker, pairing Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyeremanten would make a formidable ticket for the party that would aid them in ‘breaking the 8’.
Owusu-Agyemang said that pairing is the best way to maintain unity in the party.
He made his comments during an interview with Joy News.
“In fact, if I were to be asked, I would say ideally if we can get the vice president, my own brother Kyerematen, and my own brother Bawumia together it will be fantastic,” he said.
According to myjoyonline.com, he added that the NPP have a responsibility to collaborate and accomplish a common goal. Hence, pairing the two candidates will provide the best results for the NPP in the elections.
“As a political party, our job is to ensure that we are able to work together as people who are of the same stables and for that matter think alike and so I have no problem with that at all,” he explained.
Alan Kyeremanten and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are the presumptive frontrunners for the NPP flagbearer position.
Other contenders include Assin Central Member of Parliament, Honourable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.
