The National Cathedral project has so far swallowed up to Ghs340million so far, the Ministry of Finance has confirmed.

Specifically, an amount of Ghs339,003,064.86 in total has been released for the construction of the National Cathedral so far, the Ministry said in response to the Adhoc Committee investigating Ken Ofori-Atta.

In official document submitted to the Adhoc Committee, the Ministry also explained further that a total amount of Ghs113,040,654.86 has been paid so far to the consulting firm, Messrs Sir David Adjaye and Associates of the UK.

According to the Ministry, Ghs25million was paid by the government as its contributions to the project in March 2022, which generated controversy.

Various church denominations have so far contributed Ghs2.21 million towards the construction of the National Cathedral as well.

Major donors to the project include the Church of Pentecost, which has donated a total of GH¢700,000 through the Church of Pentecost Headquarters (200,000) and The Church of Pentecost (General Headquarters) which has contributed GH¢500,000 – making it the single largest donor.

Other major donors are the Southern Ghana Union of SDA, Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Action Chapel International who have contributed GH¢200,000 each.

The Methodist Church of Ghana, Triumphant Baptist Church-Kwadaso, Christ Apostolic Church International, the Breaking Yoke Ministry Church and the Christian Action Faith Ministry have also donated GH¢100,000 each.

The National Cathedral of Ghana is a planned interdenominational Christian cathedral scheduled to be built in Accra, the nation’s capital, as part of Ghana’s 60th anniversary celebrations. The design for the cathedral was unveiled by the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, in March 2018.
