A private legal practitioner, Samoa Addo, said investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, is not practicing journalism but entrapment.
Speaking on the political talk programme ‘The Forum’ on Asaase Radio on Saturday, November 19th 2022, Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo said journalism is about uncovering what has been done by political actors in their natural state.
Anas, he claims, rather sets people up and that cannot in any way be described as journalism.
“Journalism isn’t about trapping people. It’s not about setting people up. It’s about filming people in their natural state; that is why I sued the GJA [Ghana Journalists’ Association] for awarding him [Anas] Journalist of the Year. I’m happy that Kennedy Agyapong went out there.”
“Now there are rules, but I think we need to do more. Journalists need to do more. What I see is not journalism, it’s entrapment,” Samoa Addo is quoted as having said on Asaase radio.
He added that the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng, cannot be asked to investigate the Adu Boahen case because he was Anas’ legal representative and his firm represents him to this day.
“I don’t think Kissi Agyebeng will be able to handle this thing because he was Anas’s private lawyer and his firm still represents him,” Addo said.
The lawyer was reacting to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision to sack his Minister of State in Charge of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen, on Monday, November 14, 2022.
“After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, “Galamsey Economy”, the President spoke to Mr. Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations,” the statement of his termination said.
