The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, has rejected the method of investigative journalism applied by notorious investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Speaking during an interview on Accra-based Neat Fm’s ‘Ghana Montie’ morning show, Braimah said Anas’ method of forcing people to take bribes is worrying.

He also expressed concern over the edited nature of the documentary videos, meaning the full story of what transpired during the meetings are never told.

“No one knows what went on behind, we only see the final work. That is worrying, especially forcing people to take bribe. I don’t support the entrapment method of journalism at all,” the MFWA Executive Director said.

He pointed out that editing of the video could have taken out portions where the subjects refused to take the bribe until they were forced to do so.

His comments come following the recent airing of the latest investigative work by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, ‘Galamsey Economy’.

The documentary was aired on Monday, November 14th 2022 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The documentary showed Charles Adu Boahen, a Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, meeting with Arab ‘investors’ who were actually Tiger Eye PI investigators.

Boahen was filmed accepting wads of money from the undercover agents for ‘shopping’.

Following the release of the documentary, he was fired from his position at the Ministry.

Anas’ methods have come under increasing scrutiny, particularly in regards to appearing to force subjects of his documentaries to receive monetary rewards which are then used to implicate them.
