Former Deputy Minister of Trade, Murtala Muhammed says, Counsel for the Finance Minister Gabby Otchere-Darko was arrogant in some of his comments during Day One of the investigations into the conduct of the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta by the 8-member ad hoc committee.
His statement is in response to alleged comments by Gabby Otchere- Darko during the hearing on Tuesday Novembe 15, when he said the Finance Minister was leading the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and as such the hearing should be expedited.
However, he later apologized after an objection was raised by North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Abalkwa who is also a member of the committee.
Speaking the the Big Issue with Roland Walker on TV3 Wednesday November 16, he said “The conduct of the [Gabby Othere-Darko] was very appalling and bizarre, he came across as a very arrogant person who disrespected Parliament.
“That statement that the minister is leading IMF negotiations and therefore, if we were to sit here, he could have put it in a better way and that was why KT Hammond, co-chair of the committee had issues with it.
“What we are doing in Parliament is as important as the IMF negotiations.”
The committee is scheduled to hear the Finance Minister on November 18 on the evidence adduced against his competence in the censure motion.
