The National Youth Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, says the difference between the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) can be clearly seen in the availability of qualified Presidential candidates in both parties.
According to him, whilst the NPP has a tall list of accomplished candidates to choose from for President in the upcoming election, the NDC is so devoid of talent at the top of the pool that they are practically begging ex-President Mahama to come and save them.
Mustapha made his thoughts known during an interview with Radio A1 in Bolgatanga.
“In NPP, it is always an interesting conversation because we always have a plethora of quality materials to run for President. Anytime, you can take a cursory look in the NPP and you will not fail to mention names of two to three people with good standing, having the repertoire to be president,” he said.
He stated further that “Unlike the NDC that really struggles to produce materials. Even when the former President [John Dramani Mahama] doesn’t want to go again, the whole party goes to keen before him and say it is you or nobody else. That is not in the NPP. The abundance of materials is noticeable”
The NDC would hold their congress in December, with ex-President Mahama the overwhelming favourite against former Bank of Ghana governor and Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffour.
Meanwhile, the NPP is expected to have a competitive race between Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyeremanten, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Kwabena Agyepong and many others.
