Ghanaians have hit the streets in protest over the current high cost of living and general hardship in a protest dubbed ‘Kume Preko’ reloaded.
The protesters have convened at the Obra Spot near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
Wielding placards with several inscriptions such as ‘killer rents’, ‘the battle over the Lord saf’ and ‘e-levy is a killer law’, they registered their undue displeasure with the current conditions of Ghana.
The Ghana cedi has been on a downward spiral against the dollar the entire year, currently trading at approximately Ghc 14 to a dollar.
The currency has been adjudged the worst-performing currency in the world, passing the Sri Lankan currency.
That has had a knock-on effect, leading to astronomical prices of goods and services, coupled with rising fuel prices and galloping inflation.
The result is an intolerable cost of living that is crippling many Ghanaians.
The protestors, led by prominent personalities such as lawyer Martin Kpebu, Akwasi Addai ‘Odike’ and others, are calling for President Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to resign.
Below are a few photos and videos from the scene of the demonstration…
