Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo, has slammed the Minority MP’s calling for Ken Ofori-Atta’s impeachment for approving his nomination as Finance Minister in the first place.
According to Professor Gyampo, the NDC had every right to deny Ofori-Atta’s nomination when it was brought to Parliament yet they failed to do so and instead voted for his approval.
He said they knew everything about Ofori-Atta before choosing to confirm him so turning around now to call for his impeachment is a little hyocritical.
“You have seen this before, you said all these about Ofori-Atta, during vetting they raised these issues yet they passed him. The majority side were always going to support but the Minority foisted him on us. They had all the right to deny him but they did not. They knew these yet, approved the nomination of the Finance Minister,” Professor Gyampo said.
“When Ofori-Atta appeared before them, I don’t know whether you saw their composure, they were quiet, they gave him the chance, they said they are not going to support yet they voted for him. They said Hawa Koomson, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Agric Minister won’t be approved yet they passed them.” he continued.
The Minority in Parliament has filed a motion for the removal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
The motion was filed by Asawase Member of Parliament Muntaka Mubarak and dated October 24, 2022.
The motion followed a press conference by over 80 ‘rogue’ NPP MPs, calling for the Minister’s sack for failing in his job.
However, the NPP MP’s have lost their nerve and backed down on their demand following a meeting with the President, putting the fate of the minority’s impeachment proceedings in limbo.
