General secretary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah says, the NPP will have a tough time repeating their machinations and schemes of 2020 with him as the chief scribe of the party.
The former Director of Elections of the NDC says, the New Patriotic Party knows they have failed and will use all means to retain power but that would not happen with him as the General Secretary as he has dealt with them on many occasions.
Speaking on GBC Breakfast Show, Mr. Ankrah said the party has learned lessons from the 2020 elections petition case and vows not to repeat such mistakes again.
“the 2024 election may appear as a done deal but we will not be complacent. These people(NPP) know they have failed, they have accumulated a lot of money. We saw what they did in 2020, they will try to do more and therefore the NDC needs someone who is very strong, someone seasoned, someone who has the experience and track record like me,” he said.
Touching on his experiences dealing with the NPP, he stated that things would have been different in 2020 if he was fully in charge.
“In 2008 I was in there with them, 2012 I dealt with them and in 2020 if I was in charge, things would have been a different story,”he said assuring delegates.
Responding to allegations that he failed as the Director of election, he narrated that the division of labour in the party could not afford him to have full control.
“An IT directorate was set up from the National, Regional, and Constituency levels. So our job was that as the close of polls, we hand over the pink sheets to the IT guys for the collation and transmission. People are used to the election directorate being responsible for the entire chain. But for 2020 those two were taken out of our mandate.”
He said, they however worked together as a team at a point on the manual collation when they realized they could not rely on the electronic transmissions.
