MTN Ghana remains the gold standard of networks in Ghana as they control a whopping 72% of the data market share, figures from the National Communications Authority have revealed.

The figures cover the end of June 2022, showing that out of the 31,439,251 population of Ghana, 23,723,582 have a mobile data subscription in Ghana at a market penetration rate of 75.46%.

Out of the figure, the total number of mobile data subscriptions with the four major networks – MTN, Vodafone, AirtelTigo and Glo – stood at 23,577,601 at a market penetration rate of 74.99%.

MTN ended the month of June with 17,013,730 mobile data subscriptions. Their market share for the month under review was 72.16%.

The total number of subscriptions for Vodafone’s mobile data in June 2022 was 3,187,243. This is reflected in their market share of 13.52%.

AirtelTigo’s mobile data subscriptions for June 2022 was 3,132,519. Their market share for the month was 13.29%.

Glo recorded data subscription figures of 244,109 at the end of June 2022. This reflects a market share of 1.04%.

Sim Card Re-registration

Meanwhile, the NCA continues to require Ghanaians with a Ghana card to register their SIM with their Ghana card or get disconnected on September 30th.

The Minister for Communication, Ursula Owusu Ekuful has reiterated her earlier warning that the SIM registration exercise would not be extended past September 30.

“If you suffer that fate as a result of your own inaction, kindly do not blame your service provider.” Ursula said.

She concluded with the saying that “to be forewarned is to be forearmed”
