Director of Election and General Secretary Aspirant, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has praised the stature of outgoing General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia referring to him as an institution in the NDC.
According to Mr. Afriyie-Ankrah, the history of Ghana and the National Democratic Congress(NDC) cannot be properly told without him.
Describing him as a ‘great personality’, his outburst of praises is almost an endorsement of Mr. Nketia who after 17years of serving as a Chief Scribe is seeking to become the National Chairman of the largest opposition party.
“He (Mr. Nketia) has been inspiration to all of us, just as some of us aspire to step in his shoes, we can continue to count on his wisdom, guidance and store-house of knowledge.”Mr. Afriyie-Ankrah said.
“He is a great personality and definitely an institution and he has made the necessary impact that anybody could make within the political system, and the history of this country and the history the NDC could definitely not be complete without talking about his major role over the past 17 years,” he added.
This statements comes as the party announced that it will elect its national executives on December 17, 2022.
This was disclosed at a press conference on Thursday, September 22nd 2022 at the party’s national headquarters in Accra.
Aspirants for the national executive positions will be required to take nomination forms from October 20 to October 21, complete the forms within two weeks and file their nominations between November 5 and November 6.
The vetting will then take place on November 9 and November 10.
Mr. Nketia led the NDC to win power in 2008 and 2012 elections. The Party under his stewardship as general secretary also has lost two consecutive elections. The party lost the 2016 and 2020 elections although the party made major show in the parliamentary elections in the 2020 winning equal seats with the governing NPP.
