The Funeral of the Late Queen Elizabeth which was held yesterday in London, brought together Presidents, Prime Ministers and Dignitaries gracing the occasion to mourn with the royal Family.
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was in attendance while invitation was extended to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Ashanti.
Some Ghanaians have asked about the missing out of the former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama to the funeral.
According to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the former president was not invited because of his role in the Airbus Scandal in which the aircraft company was found guilty of paying bribe to government officials in various countries including Ghana.
“The Royal Family commands respect, and they don’t want to associate with scandalous persons who have gained fame through international corruption. They know who Government Official One is in the Airbus scandal, and that is the reason they didn’t send as invitation to Mr. John Mahama”, according to report on wontumionline.com quoting the regional party chairman.
The former President was accused by Martin Amidu for being the individual tagged as ‘Government Official 1’ by officials of the United Kingdom, which investigated the Airbus scandal.
The Queen died on September 8, 2022 at age of 96. Her funeral was held on Monday September 19, 2022.
