Former Minister of Sports and Director of election, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has revealed some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed the party for not countering the ‘papano’ allegations in the lead up to the 2020 election.
Mr. Afriyie Ankrah intimated that the party made a mistake for not revealing the identity of its member who had sexual relations with actress Tracy Boakye.
Sharing his disappointment in his party members, he said though allegations made against the former president were false, they kept quite about it.
This he believed affected the party chances in the 2020 election as he says it gave the New Patriotic party(NPP) advantage over the former President.
“one thing that makes me sad when i remember it is the ‘papano’ allegation that came up two months before the 2020 elections. During that time, i was busy with preparation for the election and i kept hearing and seeing videos of all kinds of allegations against president John Dramani Mahama.
“It was after the election that i came to know that people in the party knew that the issues being discussed in the public about the President Mahama buying a house for a woman had nothing to do with him. They(party members) knew the person who bought the house and fathered a child with the woman.” he said.
“so why didn’t we come strongly? why? How could we allow this to stand…The truth must always prevail. We are in politics and you must not sit down for people to continue spreading lies about us,.” he added.
The former minister made this revelations in an interview with XYZ TV monitored by theGhanaianvoice.com.
He bemoaned the propaganda against the former president as something that should have been countered with the available truth.
