Dr Charles Wereko Brobbey has attacked President Nana Akufo-Addo for mourning more than the bereaved following the death of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
President Akufo-Addo in the aftermath of Queen Elizabeth’s passing ordered for all national flags to fly at half-mast for a week to honour her.
However, Dr Wereko Brobbey popularly known as Tarzan has described the move as a profligate one and attacked the President for mourning even more than the British.
Following the President’s directive, Dr Brobbey, currently serving as the Chief Policy Analyst at Ghana Institute of Public Policy Options, said everything the ruling NPP government does is extravagant and this order also demonstrates that.
“Grieving more than the bereaved? Why seven days of official mourning? #Profligate even in sorrow,” Dr Wereko- Brobby wrote on social media.
After 70 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II finally kicked the bucket on Thursday, September 8th 2022.
She died after a short illness at her royal castle in Balmoral, Scotland.
Following her passing, President Akufo-Addo extended the condolences of the people of Ghana to the British people.
“My thoughts and the thoughts of all Ghanaians, at home and abroad, are with Queen Elizabeth II, the British Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth, the organization of which Ghana is a proud member, and her family in these difficult moments. I wish her the best and God’s blessings.” the President tweeted.
He subsequently ordered for official Ghana flags to fly at half-mast for a week in Queen Elizabeth’s honour.
Following her passing, her eldest son and heir, Charles, the Prince of Wales, has taken over as King Charles III.
